Below you will find a list of establishments that cater for vegans in Cornwall.

Establishments are listed in order of greatness with our favourites listed first for their area. This may be because they are vegetarian, they label vegan, they are very accomodating to vegans or in some other way we consider them more accessible because predominantly the emphasis of this guide is on places to eat out.

Note: pretty much anywhere will cater for vegans with prior notice and most places can rustle something up on the spot.  We only include ones we have contacted or had recommended to us.

We have recently started to add at the end of each entry the month and year it was last updated.  This only means some of the entry has been checked, not necessarily all of it.

Bodmin

Dolly’s Cafe (soon to have a name change) 97 Fore Street, Bodmin, PL31 3JB.    Tel: 07809 902350.    10+ Vegan dishes.    LABELLED VEGAN.    A vegetarian/vegan cafe serving dishes such as no beef stew (with soya protein), sandwiches, soups and more. Plus all the cakes are vegan including scones, chai brownies, cookies etc.  They stock non dairy milk for drinks.  A fabulous new cafe, well worth a visit.  Updated 01/17.

Best to explain your vegan when ordering.

Oriental Chinese takeaway, 30 Higher Bore Street, Bodmin, PL31 1JW.    6+ vegan dishes      Tel: 01208 72842     If you explain your vegan they can do a few tofu dishes (the fofu is not coated in egg before cooking). They also have a few vegetable dishes that are also vegan.

Snail’s Pace Cafe, Wenfordbridge, St Breward, PL30 3PN.     Tel: 01208 851178     E info@snailspacecafe.co.uk     Tue-Sun 9.30am-5pm (and Monday in the holidays and high season).     Cafe that can cater for vegans.     One of the owners is vegetarian and they are generally open to requests , although notice is preferred.  Generally they have a vegan soup although all the bread contains milk.  They always have homemade hummous on the menu and do good salads that can be made vegan friendly.  They always stock soya or rice milk for drinks.   They are also very eco friendly with a compost loo and totally solar powered.  (The only permanent off grid café in the UK).

Sizzlers Restaurant, 9 Princess Street, Bude, EX23 8AT.     Tel: 01288 356331     4+ Vegan dishes     LABELLED VEGAN     They have a seperate fryer for chips and other veggie products to be cooked seperate from meat products.  Just ask them to be cooked seperately when you go in, it just takes a few minutes longer.  They have recently added a vegan menu that includes a breakfast for £3.75, vegan sausage 95p, vegan nuggets £2.50, vegan country mushroom pie, and soya milk for drinks.     Updated 05/16

The plain flapjack is also vegan at 75p, scone or fruit scone at around 50p and the apple turnover at 85p but it’s best to check not least because they may have even more goodies.  Unfortunately, there have been reports from customers that staff have been unhelpful on the vegan issue is the past and not known what ingredients are in the food.  This seems to have been resolved now but we would be grateful to hear from you if you encounter similar experiences.    Updated 08/16

Cafe Bellini’s, 24 Queen Street, Bude, EX23 8BB     Tel: 01288 359550      The mediteranean vegetable salad is vegan.  The pizza bases are suitable for vegans and with a bit of advance notice they can arrange a suitable replacement for the mozzarella.  The homemade soups are usually suitable and again with a day or so notice they can usually adapt or ensure they have vegan suitable pasta/risotto options available.  They always have soya milk and can get almond/rice milk if needed, the date & sultana/ ginger & apricot flap jacks are suitable and are always in stock. They are spicy vegetable, wholemeal vegetable & normal vegetable. They are made with a margarine that is made up with vegetable oil, but we cannot verify for certain that the margarine is vegan.

They often have Linda McCartney sausages on the breakfast and they cook most food in vegetable oil, but check the mushrooms on the breakfast as they sometimes use butter.     Next to KJ Bromell on Kings Hill.

Garlic mushrooms in batter contain animal products but they can be made vegan. The satay sauce contains shrimp. They do tofu that is vegan and can do some tofu dishes and vegetable dishes suitable for vegans. They do not do take-away.    At the top end of the main shopping street.
